Teen Summer Reading Program

Geo-Caching in Lycoming County

Program Details

Teens - Grades 7 to 12 should register for Summer Reading here.

The first meeting will be at James V. Brown, Monday June 20th at 6pm.

Students (teens) in grade 7-12 are asked to set an eight
book goal for their summer reading.
You have your own
special collection to browse full of great reading.

When you sign-up you automatically are entered in a drawing for
the grand prize NOOK Color ebook reader. Use it to enjoy
the free ebooks available through the library's
listentobooks.org site.

We will learn about geo-caching, how to use GPS units, Google Earth, mapping, and orienteering.

Students will be introduced to geo-caching.com and instructed on how to find caches in Lycoming County.

Throughout the summer, students will be encouraged to find caches and report their "adventures" on the summer reading website.A find will count as one book toward their eight books for an entry in the Nook drawing.

Students are encouraged to read at least eight books for the summer. Eight books will equal one entry into a drawing for a Nook e-reader. For each book you read, please enter a review in our "Tell Us Your Story" form. (See link to "Tell us your story" at left)   Your reviews will be posted to share with our other readers. And remember, a geo-cache story  also counts as one book!

Group geo-caching opportunities will be held throughout the summer at each Link Library and James V. Brown.

Each of the Link geo-caching programs are at 6pm each Thursday except for James V. Brown Library

Geo-cache 101

GeoSnippits Introduction

You Are Here

Geo-Caching is an adventure in your backyard. Hopefully the cache sites in Williamsport and Lycoming County have you exploring your community and finding treasures of all kinds. Share your adventures with other Summer Reading Club members and be entered into the drawing for an e-reader.

So tell us your story!

Some ideas include: which cache you were searching for, how did you get there, how long did it take to find, what kind of map or GPS did you use, did you have help from friends or family, what other cool stuff did you see while you were hunting for the cache, was this the first time you went geo-caching…
